Kathy Starnick has
recently earned the WorldatWork’s Certified Benefits

comprehensive examinations that are designed to measure an
individual’s level of knowledge about benefits and total
compensation management theory and practice. The CBP program is
regarded throughout North America as the designation that attests

GRADUATE EDUCATION
IN THE FORT WALTON BEACH AREA OF INTEREST TO PROFESSIONALS IN
HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Graduate Degrees in Human Resources
Management or related areas can help to prepare current and
prospective HRM professionals for the increasing level of
complexity found in today's organizations as well as enhance
opportunities for upward job mobility. In the Ft. Walton Beach
area, there are two colleges
|
offering
graduate degree programs of interest to the HRM profession, the
University of West Florida (UWF) and Troy State University (TSU).
UWF offers the Master of Business Administration. The MBA is a
generalist business degree program, containing graduate courses in
the major areas of business, such as Accounting, Economics,
Finance, Management, and Marketing. This has the advantage of
providing the broad perspective that may be desired by many
employers. TSU offers the Master of Science in Human Resources
Management (MSHRM) which concentrates most of the course work in
HR Management. Some of the courses included in the degree are HRM
Staffing, HRM Compensation, the Legal Environment of Employment
Decisions, Training and HR Development, and Strategic HRM. TSU
also offers the Master of Science in Management (MSM) with a
concentration in Human Resources Management. The MSM with an HRM
concentration provides many of the same courses found in the MSHRM
degree, but with a broader business perspective. Last, the MSM may
also be completed with a General Management concentration, which
provides for an even broader mix of management courses but may
still include some HRM courses.
For more information on programs
offered by either of these two universities, visit their web
pages, www.uwf.edu for the University of West Florida and
www.tsufl.edu for Troy State University.

BOARD
NEWS!
In the last newsletter, we
asked for your feedback regarding the possibility of sending
membership updates and membership renewal applications via e-mail
instead of snail mail. The Board thought it would be a good idea
to get feedback from the general membership to determine your
thoughts to this suggestion. Would this work for you? We haven’t
heard much from the membership on this idea… If there aren’t
any objections the board will consider voting on this option at
the year end board meeting. PLEASE let a board member know if
you have thoughts or objection to this idea. Thank you.
