We have an exciting new feature in our newsletter called “Member
Spotlight”! Each quarter, the board will choose one of our local
chapter SHRM members and conduct an interview with them. This will
be a fun way to learn a little more about each other! For our very
first “Member Spotlight”, the board felt there was no one
better to start things off with than our very own Emerald Coast
SHRM Chapter President, Tami Manard. Tami graciously accepted our
invitation, and here is the result!
Tami
Manard is the Director of Human Resources at Micro Systems in Ft.
Walton Beach. Tami was inspired to pursue a career in the field of
HR while taking a labor relations course from a favorite professor
at The University of
Buffalo. Tami went on to earn a degree in business management with
a concentration in human resources.
While
working in the field of HR, she feels her greatest success
occurred in her early days with Micro Systems. At that time, a
full fledged HR department didn’t actually exist at Micro
Systems. Rather, all HR duties fell to another department who had
been juggling those responsibilities with many other tasks. Tami
took on the task of creating a human resources department and
implementing affirmative action, an annual employee survey, an
enhanced benefits package and a performance appraisal system.
(Phew!)
Tami
states her favorite and most rewarding part of being an HR
professional is dealing with employee relations issues. Tami
enjoys giving guidance through direct contact with supervisors and
employees. Tami is a wife and a mother to three children and finds
that her biggest challenge is carefully balancing her work
and home life. In her spare time Tami loves to spend time
with her family. She has recently taken up running and is training
to participate in an upcoming 5K! |
