Program "Back to the Floor"
The second run began Friday, July 26 and will continue for the next six weeks through September 6. The series, produced by the BBC and Oregon Public Broadcasting, has had an extremely successful run the last five years in the UK. PBS is currently running "Back to the Floor" in the US as a pilot series.
As you may know, "Back to the Floor" is a series that challenges top executives to descend from the heights to spend a week with their workers - serving drinks, cooking fries, fielding customer complaints, cleaning dog mess, making cups and saucers and dealing with hardened criminals. They learn about how their company really works, what the business is like and what their employees think of them. The series is running on nearly 70 percent of the 300 Public Television stations nationwide. While PBS will air the series July through September, local stations have discretion over the program's scheduling, and we hear that many are saving the "Back to the Floor" for this fall's programming line-up.  issues affect the success or failure of an organization. So, in order to ensure the program's success, we encourage all of you to contact your local station via phone, e-mail or letter. Let your PBS station know you appreciate the programming they have provided. If they're not airing it, or are airing it at an odd hour, call them and ask the program director to place the program in more viewer-friendly time slot. Your calls make a difference. In fact, SHRM was in contact with the Dallas/Fort Worth station discussing "Back to the Floor," and the station decided to rerun the entire
series Labor Day weekend -- simply because we asked.
